How it works

Two steps. Deterministic, not vibes.

01

Step 1 / Pull from Google Ads

Same data Keyword Planner uses. Without the spreadsheet workflow.

The agent calls the Google Ads API for keyword ideas, then pulls historical metrics for every term: monthly search volume, competition level, and top-of-page bid range.

Pulling from Google Ads API

hubspot vs salesforce ~2,100/mo
sales pipeline software ~1,800/mo
how to manage leads ~3,400/mo
  • Search volume
  • Competition
  • Top of page bid
02

Step 2 / Cluster by intent

Ad group ready buckets, not a raw list.

Each high intent keyword goes into a named cluster with an estimated budget, click volume, and cost per lead at your conversion rate. Launch a campaign from the cluster you pick.

Where it sits in the system

Keyword Research is the seed
three other agents grow from.

Clusters do not stop at a list. Ad Copy pulls them to target variants per intent. Landing Page picks them up to draft page topics that match. Recommendation uses cluster economics to set spend priority. Investigation closes the loop with wasted spend terms that become the next research seed.

05 Keyword Research

The output is a campaign-ready plan, not a CSV.

Each cluster carries the intent label, the volume, the cost per lead at your conversion rate, the budget recommendation, and the agents downstream that pick it up next.

Common questions

What planners ask before they trust the clusters.

6 questions

Where does the keyword data come from?

Google's own Keyword Planner API, the same source professional PPC operators use. Search volume, competition level, and top-of-page bid range all come live from Google. The cluster labels and cost-per-lead estimates are layered on top using your product context and your account's conversion rate.

My high intent terms have the highest CPC. Shouldn't I pause them to save money?

This is the most expensive mistake in B2B SaaS Google Ads, and most tools make it for you. Terms like Software, Tools, Pricing, Demo, and Versus cost more per click precisely because the searcher is close to buying. CPC is only one input. Conversion rate and customer value are the other two, and these terms win on both. Generic tools default to 'pause anything with high CPC' and quietly cut your best traffic. Hero protects these terms by default and only flags one to trim when three signals line up at once: high cost, zero conversions, and a clear mismatch between the term and what you sell. Never on price alone.

What does 'clustering by intent' actually mean?

Four canonical clusters every B2B SaaS account ends up with: high intent (ready to buy, like 'sales pipeline software'), comparison (evaluating alternatives, like 'hubspot vs salesforce'), problem aware (knows the pain, hunting for solutions, like 'how to manage leads'), and branded (your own and competitor brand terms, protected by default). Each keyword gets sorted into the cluster that matches the buyer's mental state when they typed it. That sorting makes the next steps, including ad copy variants, landing page topics, and budget allocation, defensible.

How accurate are the cost-per-lead estimates?

The math uses Google's competition data and top-of-page bid range divided by your account's own conversion rate. For accounts with at least 30 days of conversion data, the estimates track close to your realised cost per conversion on most clusters. For brand new accounts without conversion history, the agent flags the estimate as 'directional' and shows the inputs so you can judge. Note this is cost per Google Ads conversion (a trial signup or demo booking), not blended customer acquisition cost. True CAC depends on what happens in your CRM after the click, which Hero does not read.

Does this work for Performance Max?

Partially. Performance Max does not let you target keywords directly, only asset group signals and audiences. The Keyword Research Agent surfaces the buyer language clusters that should appear in your PMax asset group signals, but the clusters themselves cannot be 'targeted' the way Search keywords can. If you want strict keyword control, the agent will tell you the cluster is better served by a dedicated Search campaign.

Can I export the clusters and use them with another tool?

Yes. Download as CSV with the full cluster structure, search terms, volumes, competition, and cost-per-lead estimates. The export is yours to paste into the Google Ads UI, your team's planning doc, or any other tool. We do not lock you into Hero for daily operation; we just make the planning faster.
